Transforming Word-of-Mouth Marketing among Diaspora Africans

Chioma Ifeanyi-Okoro is co-founder of My African Corner, an innovative digital media hub whose objective is to be a curated platform on which any product or service remotely associated with Africa can be found. The service would cover searches relating to cities across the world (starting from Toronto where she lives).

Simply put, Chioma is gunning to transform word-of-mouth marketing (calling up Mr. A, B and C to ask where what can be found) into an organised, searchable, online directory so that Africans in the Diaspora are able to find familiar items with ease.

Ms. Ifeanyi-Okoro graduated in 2010 from the University of Guelph (Bachelors of Commerce in Management Economics in Industry and Finance), worked in the banking and tech industries for over five years, and completed a CPA, CMA in 2015. In December 2016, she left her job and started My African Corner.

Her motivation? She had consciously cultivated a network of business contacts, and soon became the go-to person among family and friends for information on businesses owned by Africans in the Diaspora. On realising that this was a real problem that needed to be solved, Chioma - along with co-founder Aziz Garuba - put things in place to set up My African Corner in January 2017.
